The Syracuse Women’s Club Ice Hockey team shutout RIT 7-0 in its home opener on Saturday night. A strong offensive effort and a flawless performance in net improved the Orange to 2-0-0 on the season.

Three minutes into the game, SU took control, scoring the opening goal of the night. Eve Chace, the junior forward, scored the first goal with assists from juniors Neve Padulo and Juliana Bucci. Just two minutes later, freshman forward Margaret Redgate added another goal for SU. She later recorded an assist to earn her first two points on home ice.

Syracuse continued to dominate the game in the second period, adding two more goals. Padulo scored the first goal on a quick power-play in front of the net, followed by an unassisted shorthanded goal by captain and defensemen Bryana Treon. Syracuse kept the pressure on RIT, outshooting the Tigers 35-7.

The Syracuse freshmen made their mark in the third period, adding three more goals that put the game away. Kasey Pierz, the freshman defender, started the scoring with a quick goal. Six minutes later, freshman forward Madeline Babensee scored her first home goal, finding the top-left corner of the net. Babensee later recorded an assist on senior forward Neave Sullivan’s goal to cap the 7-0 victory.

Goaltenders Emmalyn Lacz and Kennah Brant combined to keep RIT scoreless, stopping all seven of the Tigers’ shots on goal. Lacz started the game before the freshman Brant stepped in during the second period, helping preserve SU’s shutout.

The Orange will look to earn their second win at the Tennity Ice Pavilion on Oct. 23 against Niagara University at 6:15 p.m.
