As the first semester of the 2024-2025 season comes to a close, the Syracuse Women's Club Hockey team has been nothing short of dominant. With an undefeated record of 8-0-0 and a commanding lead in the Upstate New York Collegiate Hockey League - Women's, the Orange have proven themselves as the team to beat. Their impressive performance so far has earned them 16 points, a +43 goal differential, and an unblemished record heading into the winter break.

A Perfect Start to the Season

The Syracuse women's club hockey team has been firing on all cylinders this semester, posting eye-popping scores in nearly every game. From the very first puck drop, the team showcased its depth, skill, and intensity. Some standout victories include:

  • Syracuse vs. Paul Smith (7-1) - The Orange made a statement early in the season with a commanding 7-1 win over Paul Smith. Their offense was relentless, and their defensive structure was on point, allowing just one goal while scoring seven. This victory set the stage for their undefeated run.

  • Syracuse vs. Springfield (6-1) - Against Springfield, the Orange showcased their all-around dominance once again with a 6-1 victory. The team’s offensive firepower was evident, while their defensive unit kept Springfield at bay for much of the game. This win solidified Syracuse's standing as a top contender in the league.

  • Syracuse vs. Norwich (4-2 and 4-1) - The Orange proved their resilience with two back-to-back victories over Norwich. In their first meeting, Syracuse won 4-2, followed by a 4-1 victory in the rematch. These wins against a tough Norwich squad highlighted Syracuse's balanced play, with solid offensive production and stingy defense.

Throughout these games, the Orange have showcased an all-around game, balancing offensive firepower with solid defensive play and elite goaltending.

Offensive and Defensive Powerhouses

As the team heads into the second half of the season, they have made it clear that they are a force to be reckoned with. Syracuse leads the league with a whopping 51 goals scored in just 8 games, averaging more than 6 goals per game. This offensive surge is led by some standout players:

  • Hannah O'Dowd and Leah Landry both share the team lead with 9 goals apiece, showcasing their ability to find the back of the net in key moments.

  • Neve Padulo follows closely behind with 8 goals and has contributed 16 points, leading the team in points for the semester.

In addition to scoring, the team’s depth has been reflected in their assist totals. Julianna Bucci leads the way with 8 assists, followed closely by Padulo, Landry, and Elise Herrick, who all have 6 assists each.

On the defensive side, Syracuse has been just as impressive. The team has allowed only 8 goals in 8 games, a remarkable statistic that highlights their defensive structure. Goaltenders Emmalyn Lacz and Harper Keenan have both played key roles in this defensive dominance:

  • Lacz has posted a stellar 0.90 goals-against average (GAA) and a .925 save percentage with 5 wins.

  • Keenan, with a .938 save percentage and a 1.29 GAA, has been equally impressive, recording 3 wins.

Team Leaders and Standouts

  • Penalties: While the team has been dominant both offensively and defensively, players such as Bryana Treon (8 penalty minutes), Leigh Wilkin, and Caroline Young (each with 6 penalty minutes) have contributed to the penalty totals.

  • Standout Performers: Along with the offensive leaders, the team has been led by key players in all areas. Ivy Dietrich has also been a significant contributor with 6 goals and 10 points, rounding out the offensive firepower for the team.
