Recap: Syracuse wins the College Hockey North Division Championship

On February 22, 2025, Syracuse dominated Springfield 6-1 at Messa Rink in Schenectady, NY, securing the College Hockey North Division Championship. The game was a thrilling showcase of skill, strategy, and tenacity, with standout performances that led to a deserved victory for Syracuse.


First Period:

  • Syracuse’s Ivy Dietrich got things rolling with a goal, assisted by Neve Padulo and Leah Landry.

  • Springfield responded with a goal from Bailey McDevitt, assisted by Elia Burbidge, but it was the only time they found the back of the net.


Second Period:

  • Syracuse’s Neve Padulo stole the show with an electrifying move, scoring with the help of Leah Landry, which proved to be the game-winning goal.

  • Julianna Bucci followed up with an incredible goal, showcasing beautiful moves to put Syracuse up further.

  • Sarah Anderson, assisted by Ivy Dietrich and Bry Treon, added a power play goal, pushing Syracuse's lead even further.


Third Period:

  • Bucci struck again with a beautiful top-corner goal, assisted by Sarah Anderson.

  • Padulo capped the night with another goal, assisted by Carson Schuyler, securing the final tally at 6-1.


Penalties: 

Both teams faced four penalties each, but Mia Alfonso from Springfield was particularly notable, committing all four of Springfield’s penalties: interference, roughing, interference again, and cross-checking. Her undisciplined play contributed to a power-play goal for Syracuse and increased her penalty minutes total to 60 for the season.


Goaltending:

  • Syracuse's Emma Lacz played an outstanding game, saving 32 of 33 shots for a .970 save percentage.

  • Springfield’s Kathryn Gilbert stopped 28 of 34 shots, finishing with a .824 save percentage.


As the final seconds ticked down, Syracuse’s players erupted in celebration, clinching the victory and lifting their new championship trophy with pride. This dominant win cemented their place as the North Division Champions.
